LAHORE – The Anti-Vehicle Lifting Staff of the City police on Saturday claimed to have smashed two vehicle-lifter gangs by arresting their 34 members during its campaign against auto-lifting. CCPO Ahmad Raza Tahir told reporters that the police also recovered 264 stolen vehicles during the last month.
While addressing a news conference here at Investigations Police Headquarters, CCPO Ahmed Raza Tahir further claimed that the police also arrested 55 proclaimed offenders and 30 court absconders during the same period.
He said that the police had traced 183 registered cases including 96 of car-theft and 87 motorcycles lifting. He said that the remaining 87 cases would be traced after the police would get the laboratory report of the forensic tests of the recovered vehicles. DIG (Investigations) Malik Ali Amir and other senior officers were also present on this occasion.
Meanwhile, the Anti Motorcycle Lifting Staff of Iqbal Town police division on Saturday claimed to have arrested three motorcycle lifters including the ringleader and recovered 10 stolen motorcycles from their possession.
During preliminary interrogation, the gangsters confessed to 10 incidents of motorcycle lifting in various areas of the City. According to a police spokesman, the arrested bandits were identified as Awais, Abdul Rehman and Maqsood Qamar. Further investigations are underway.
