KHANEWAL - Police have busted an inter-district gang of cattle lifters and recovered animals, worth Rs1.8 million, from them, DPO Dr Muhammad Waqar Abbasi said on Saturday.
According to him, the seven-member gang was operating in the district since the past few months and looted animals from the farm of one Abdul Latif, a resident of Chak 4/AH, from the farm of Mehar Shauk of Chak 13/9R.
Its arrested members were identified as ringleader Muhammad Sarwar, s/o Muhammad Anwar, r/o Chak 46/D, Depalpur, Munawar Hussain, s/o Hamid Ali, r/o Chak 46/D Depalpur, Muhammad Ali, s/o Muhammad Ashraf, r/o Chak 46/D Depalpur, Azhar Maqbool, s/o Maqbool Ahmad Bhatti, r/o Ahmad Town Depalpur, Abdul s/o Shama Nonari, r/o 39/D Depalpur, Riaz Ahmad, s/o Ahmad Ali Nonari, r/o Nonarianwala and Muhammad Arif, s/o Muhammad Jaffa, r/o Abdullah Basti, Depalpur. DPO Abbasi added that 45 cases were also registered against the gang in police stations across the province. Twelve animals were recovered from the gang, while a vehicle, 4 pistols, 150 bullets, were also seized from them.
 “Investigation is in progress and we are expecting more recovery,” the DPO claimed.
He assured businessmen and lawyers that he had directed DSP Javid Khan, the SHOs to take immediate action against those dacoits who looted advocate Rao Sajid Ali and others. He urged traders and civil society to have trust in sincere efforts of the district police that were much concerned about the rising crimes.
