A German town has been left bewildered by an anonymous philanthropist who leaves envelopes stuffed with thousands of euros. So far the mystery benefactor has given away the equivalent of £158,000 in a series of donations in the Lower Saxony town of Braunschweig. The cash has been left in unmarked envelopes in mailboxes, tucked under doormats and once, as a priest found, between the pews of a church. The ‘Good Samaritan’, as he or she has been dubbed, appeares to have knowledge of German tax law as the donations never exceed the maximum non-taxable sum of 10,000 euros.                                       –ON
