LAHORE - Government College University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Kahleequr Rahman Monday called upon the toppers from all provinces of Pakistan to promote nationalism, harmony and peace and avoid regional racism.
“Pakistan is our identity in the world and we need to utilise all our energies for its development,” said Prof Rahman while talking to a delegation of 60 top position-holders of intermediate from Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu Kashmir and Sindh, who came to visit the 150th year-old Government College University, Lahore and other universities of Lahore on the invitation of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif.
Talking to the toppers, the VC said that the Government College University did not require any domicile and students from any province could get admission in it on merit. He said the Government College University had always encouraged questioning, difference of opinion and argument, besides teaching tolerance to students; tolerance towards the faith, beliefs, religion and ideas of other people.
The position-holders, during their visit at GCU, witnessed the original Nobel Prize that was received by eminent Old Ravian Dr Abdus Salam for his outstanding contribution in Physics.
The Nobel Prize remained the centre of attraction among the position holders and they were briefed in detail about the life and achievements of Dr Salam. Dr Salam had studied at Government College from 1942 to 1946 and had taught there from 1951 to 1954.
