Islamabad - Governor Punjab Malik Muhammad Rafique Rajwana has underlined the great services and contributions of volunteers and acknowledged the role of Red Crescent not only in rescuing the calamity-hit people across the globe but also for extending humanitarian services in social sector.

He stated this while addressing a ceremony held here at Pakistan Red Crescent headquarters in connection with World Volunteering Week.

The Governor Punjab laid emphasis on expansion of social services and shared his experiences relating to contributions of various volunteer organisations which have been serving in far-flung rural areas.

He also admired the spirit of special parsons who despite their mental and physical illness are rendering meritorious services by making themselves honourable citizens of Pakistan.

Malik Muhammad Rafique Rajwana lauded the historical role of Red Crescent and appreciated the spirit and dedicated efforts of the management of Red Crescent which had started healthy and safe Pakistan Movement and trained a large number of volunteers who would participate in school education, health education and first aid activities.

Chairman Pakistan Red Crescent Dr Saeed Elahi addressing the ceremony said that youth are the asset of Pakistan and in order to canalize their energies in right direction, it is need of the hour that they should be given optimum opportunities of development and progress.

He also talked about the disaster management programmes of Pakistan Red Crescent.
