Man shot dead in armed attack on car in Rawalpindi

Rawalpindi-Armed assailants on motorbike opened indiscriminate firing on a car with automatic weapons killing a man on the spot while leaving other injured at Lalkurti, informed sources on Wednesday.
The incident took place on Tuesday late night a few yards away from the office of Regional Police Officer (RPO) Rawalpindi Range Imran Ahmer. 
A murder case has also been registered against unknown killers with Civil Lines police station, they said.
According to sources, two men namely Waqar and Jahangir were sitting in a white car near clothes market in Lalkurti when two unidentified assailants riding on motorcycle appeared and one fired a volley of bullets on the vehicle. Resultantly, Waqar died on the spot after suffering multiple bullet injuries whereas his nephew Jahangir got injured. 
The criminals managed to escape from the scene and a heavy contingent of police rushed to the crime scene. ASP Civil Lines Circle, SHO PS Civil Lines and investigators of Homicide Investigation Unit (HIU) collected evidences from the crime scene besides recording statements of eyewitnesses as part of their investigation. 
Rescue 1122 shifted the body and injured person to DHQ Hospital for autopsy. 
The occurrence of firing incident also sent shockwaves among the shoppers and traders in the highly sensitive area.
“We had obtained CCTV footage from nearby buildings to identify the killers,” said ASP. He said the reason behind the murder is said to be an old enmity, however, police are investigating the murder case through different angles. He said several teams have been constituted to arrest the killers. 
Meanwhile, a contractor allegedly tortured a poor labourer in Gulshanabad Housing Society and threw him from third floor of a building apparently over demanding the wage. The injured labourer was moved to Benazir Bhutto Hospital for cure. A large number of other labourers staged a protest demo against barbarianism of contractor and blocked Adyala Road for traffic. A bumper to bumper traffic jam occurred due to protest. The protestors said police are not lodging case against the accused contractor whereas the doctors in BBH are showing negligence in treating the labourer who is battling for life after being thrown out of third story building. 
A heavy contingent of police rushed to the scene and opened the road for traffic after negotiations with protestors.
SHO PS Saddar Bairooni Inspector Malik Allah Yar, when contacted, said police have received complaint from victim labourer and had sent him to hospital for medico legal report. He said FIR will be registered after issuance of medical report by the doctors.
