Prime Minister Gilani inaugurated the first unit of wind energy in Thatta district of Sindh on April 19, 2009. This is good sign, but I wonder when the time will come to inaugurate such units in Chitral, Swat, Mardan and Landi Kotal who all have potential for this. I think the day will not come until we have a President or Prime Minister from this area. The hydel power scheme of Golen in Chitral is in doldrums for the last 24 years. The scheme was approved by ECNEC in 1985. It had to be completed in 1990. Today in 2009 we see no signs of any work on progress on this scheme because nobody from this ill-fated area has become a PM or President yet. -BASHIR HUSSAIN AZAD, Chitral, via e-mail, April 20.
