ISLAMABAD Two student nurses that were reportedly injured when the former Executive Director PIMS Dr Ghazala car hit them during a protest last week, refused to appear before the medical board on Monday. According to sources, parents of the injured students have also arrived and they did not let their daughters to appear before the board. The injured nurses were stopped by their colleagues to appear before the board for medical examination, as they did not have any fracture and they feared they would lose the case sources further maintained. The medical board comprises Dr Aslam Shah, Prof Dr Imran Sikander, Dr Shazia Haroon and Professor Rakhshanda Rasheed. Meanwhile the three members committee constituted by the Ministry of Health to probe into issue has asked former executive director Dr Ghazala Mehmood to appear before the inquiry committee today (Tuesday). While rejecting Dr Ghazala removal the doctors strike continued and outpatient departments of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) remained closed on fifth connective day on the call of Young Doctors Association Islamabad chapter, protesting against removal of former executive director Dr Ghazala Mehmood. Dr Ghazala was removed last Wednesday in the wake of nurses protest, which was called off when their several demands including removal of Dr Ghazala as executive director was accepted. Earlier, in the morning all doctors including house officers, postgraduate residents, senior doctors and consultants boycotted to attend outdoor patients and gathered in front of the administration block along with security staff and paramedics. They remained there for almost three hours. While addressing the rally, Dr Asfand Yar khan made it clear that till restoration of Prof Ghazala along with the security in charge Safdar, CMO Dr Liaqat and the her driver, strike would not be called off. Protestors shouted slogans against Ministry and demanded immediate reinstatement of Dr Ghazala on the post of executive director. According to sources Health Minster Makhdoom Shahabudin was willing to reach PIMS to negotiate with the aggrieved doctors but it was conveyed to him that the doctors are really in aggressive mood so he better not come to avoid any untoward situation. While talking to TheNation Principle PIMS School of Nursing Balqees said a delegation from the Ministry comprising of Additional Secretary, Secretary and two other held meeting with the injured students. I left for home so I am no aware what exactly happened she continued. She further said she along with few other hospital officals had been asked to come to Ministry, to talk with the high ups to sort out the issue. According to Dr Ghazala she received a notice on Sunday from the Ministry asking her to appear before the inquiry committee. It is being anticipated that the inquiry report would be completed within a couple of day. Replying to a query regarding the injured student nurses she said, the Medical Board was constituted on 28th April and refusal of the injured students to appear before the board is quite surprising. When Director General Health Rasheed Jooma was contacted he was not available for comments.
