OUR STAFF REPORTER LAHORE In order to avoid any untoward situation, the police has been put on high alert throughout the province fearing possible backlash after the killing of Osama Bin Ladin. The state of high alert has been declared across the Punjab on the directives of Inspector General of Police Javed Iqbal. According to a police handout issued on Tuesday, the Additional IG (Operations) Rafiq Hasan stated on behalf of IGP at Police Headquarters. Elaborating the details regarding the security measures being taken by the Punjab police the Addl IG said that on intelligence reports regarding security threats to VVIPs, foreigners and minorities strict security measures had been adopted. He further said that the working conditions of walk through gates, CCTV cameras and metal detectors were rechecked. Side by side security officials on various duties had been directed to ensure the consecutive patrolling. The Addl IG also said that the banned organisations were being regularly monitored by concerned branches of the police department. In this connection Special branch and counter terrorism department have also been directed to organise the intelligence sharing system. To provide security to every citizen of the province without any discrimination all precautionary steps have been finalized, he maintained.
