ISLAMABAD - Pakistan maintains its rich tradition of achieving things in a harder way. "How many chances does Ahmad Shahzad need to score consistently?" Once again Ahmad failed to provide a good start to Pakistan. M Hafeez played one of the best innings of his life but the manner he threw his wicket can't be expected of a player who has scored 100 plus runs. Bishoo has once again succeeded in maintaining his reputation and claims another three wickets haul. It is hard to believe that Pakistani players, known for playing spinners exceptionally well, have no answer to Bishoo. He by no means is an extraordinary bowler, but still manages to take wickets in bulk against helpless Pakistani players. Hafeez had played a wonderful innings and his 121 runs have saved Pakistani innings from getting out well before 200 runs. Asad Shafiq also contributed well with his patience knock of 71 off 102 deliveries. As soon as Hafeez departed, Pakistan innings flattened as they lost wickets at regular intervals. One can judge Pakistan's poor batting as they lost 6 wickets for just 36 runs in quick succession. Captain Afridi failed to show his class and once again failed against the West Indian bowling for the fourth time in the series as he made only 8 runs. Afridi has taken things for granted, and realise that he is a captain of the side and prove his worth. Pakistan had already taken an under-strength side for the tour of Caribbean's. It was the responsibility of the senior players to deliver for the country and set an example for juniors. But in Pakistan's case all the seniors are just playing for them, they don't bother to guide the juniors. Pakistan have selected quite a few youngsters in their ranks. How can they learn at this level when no body is there to guide them? The time is running short for Afridi and company if they keep on repeating same mistakes against West Indies then it will be almost impossible for them to beat a top quality opposition. West Indian players have already wasted too many chances to beat Pakistan in the previous games despite getting reasonably good starts but the WI players spoiled all the good work done by their top order batsmen. West Indies team passing through a bad patch as WICB failed to select their best eleven due to some dispute with top players like Chris Gayle and Pollard as they preferred IPL than playing for the country. The things could have been far different had these two players' services been available to West Indies side. Batting was always an area of concern for Pakistan, but their bowling has always produced good results for the team. Saeed Ajmal has bowled exceptionally well. He is not only taking key wickets at crucial stages of the games but has also restricted the opposition batsmen. M Hafeez has also shown signs of improvement in his bowling with every match. Shahid Afridi has let not only down the team with his poor showing with the willow, and has not managed to shine with the leather too. One thing which comes in every one's mind is what the selectors are trying to prove by including so many new players in the side. Is this an international series or a mare club level match? The fielding and catching of Pakistan has once again come to haunt them. Salman was brought in to improve wicket keeping problems but he as yet to reply the trust of selectors and his batting is also a total failure in four innings he has just scored three runs. Every top playing side gives chances to new blood but at the right time and gradually replaces the senior players, which help the new players learn from the seniors. Pakistan has its own philosophy; Wahab was dropped to give way to Tanvir who was so expensive in his very first match. Hammad was hammered by all the batsmen, especially Simmons who severely punished him. Despite a strong start West Indies once again failed to utilise and the batsmen like past throw their wickets away. Simmons was the star for West Indies but he too played a rash shot and was easily held at mid off after a superb knock of 76 runs at the bowling of Tanvir. Tanvir bounced back after early nervous start and bowled with line and length. Had the West Indian players played sensibly they could have easily won the earlier matches too. The West Indies have finally managed to beat Pakistan under D/L system but this victory was indeed gifted by Pakistan to them. As the team was fully aware that the rain might disturb the match frequently they should have adopted a game plan and keep an eye on the things happenings and restricted the opposition as per requirements. Millions of fans have clearly witnessed the West Indian officials were urging their batsmen to strike a big hit. What was Pakistan officials were doing at that time? They were probably sleeping and had no idea where the things were going. Afridi made the batsman's job much easier by giving Bravo a lollypop delivery, which he fully acknowledged and dispatched it out of the park for a huge six, thus enabling his team to win the match by 1 run under D/L system. Time and again the questions were raised about the abilities of Waqar Younis as coach and Intikhab Alam as manager as they were failed again. Pakistan had won all the three matches against the West Indies due to sheer of good luck. Their in and off the field performance was a total disappointment. The management will repeat its lame excuse and put the blame for the defeat on inexperienced side. They have selected the side so they have to accept their mistakes and shoulder the entire burden of the defeat. If Afridi can't bat and he is being taken to task by the batsmen, how can he be retained in the side. He has failed to live up to the expectations he not only let himself down but also the entire nation. If Pakistan can't beat this West Indian side how will they compete with the top professional sides. The PCB chairman and the entire selection body have to reply. People are getting fed up with the team's consistent poor showings.
