OUR STAFF REPORTER KARACHI - Subh-e-Nau launched the Earth Day National Tennis Tournament here at the tennis courts of the CDGK Tennis Complex the other day. Some of the players fail to reach the venue for their scheduled matches in under-18 singles event due to prevailing security situation. Subh-e-Nau Chairperson Ms Shahida Farooq with the consent of the CDGK officials refurbished and repainted three cemented courts and the main court at the cricket stadium which had remained neglected for many years. Before the matches started, the draw and seeding were announced. Syed Zohaib Raza and Talha Zubair were declared the first and the second seed of boys U-18 singles category respectively. On the opening day, only U-18 singles matches were possible. Hassan Farooq, Yahya Gabool and Hasnain Siddiqui reached next round after beating their respective opponents. Azhar Qadir got walkover against Taha. Main round of ladies U-18 singles and other categories would be played as soon as normalcy returns to the city. Matches scheduled for Tuesday have been put off. Maheen Dada has been named top seed in ladies singles category. Results: Boys U-18 singles first round: Hassan beat Adeel 6-1, 7-5, Yahya Gabool beat Usman 6-3, 7-5, Hasnain Siddiqui beat M Salman 6-3, 5-1 (Salman retd), Azhar Qadir w/o Taha.
