LAHORE – Punjab Excise and Taxation Department Secretary on Thursday lauded the performance of an Additional Advocate General in a property tax recovery case of Rs7.466 million in which the department had succeeded to get the decision in government favour.

In a letter written to Advocate General Punjab Ashtar Ausaf Ali, Secretary Fawad Hassan Fawad appreciated the performance of Addl. AG Malik Abdul Aziz in the case.

The secretary wrote that the case had gained tremendous importance for the department in view of its possible negative impact on a number of similar cases of recovery of revenue. He said that the amount of Rs7.466 million was in default since 2004 as a number of other organisations were planning to file similar case for exemption.

But, due to the efforts and arguments of the Mr Aziz the court convinced on the department argument which led the dismissal of petition of Pakistan Engineering Council, defaulter of the said amount, the secretary further added in the letter.

The case would result in significant improvement in revenue recovery by the excise department, the secretary concluded.
