ISLAMABAD - Davis Cupper M Abid made the biggest upset by defeating second seed Yasir Khan in the semi-final of the 9th Subh-e-Nau National Clay Court Tennis Championship 2012 here at Senator Dilawar Abbas Tennis Complex on Thursday.
Abid showed tremendous skills to outplay Yasir in the match. Yasir failed to win a single set as M Abid won in straight sets 6-3, 7-5 to set a date with Aqeel Khan in final.
In the second semi-final Aqeel Khan too hot for Imran Shaukat and defeated him 6-1, 6-1. The Men’s singles final will be played today at 4:00pm. Mudassar entered boys U-18 final after beating Kashan-ul-Haq in straight sets. Mudassar kept his nerves to beat Kashan by 6-4 and 7-6(5).
Mudassar will meet Ahmed Babar in final. Ahmed defeated Raja Shahid in straight sets 6-2, 6-4 in second semi-finals. The final will start at 10:00am today.
Nofil Kaleem defeated Asadullah in the boys U-14 semi-final by 6-1, 6-1. Nofil will face Muzammil in final. Muzammil defeated Hassan Shaukat 6-3, 6-1.
Aqeel Khan and his younger brother Yasir Khan clinched Men’s doubles title after beating experienced pair of Hameed-ul-Haq/Usman Ijaz. Hameed and his partner won first set but failed maintain their momentum and lost the match by 3-6, 6-3(10-8). Mudassar and Ahmed Babar clinched Boy’s U-18 doubles title after beating Arham Atique/Imad Amir 4-6, 6-3(10-5). Sara Mansoor reached Ladies singles final after beating Mehak in straight sets by 6-0 and 6-3. Iman Qureshi toppled top seed Saba Aziz by 7-5, 7-5 to set a date with Sara Mansoor in final. A total of Rs 25 million cash awards will be distributed among the players. Men’s singles semi-finals: Aqeel Khan beat Imran Shaukat.
