KARACHI – The Jamaat-e-Islami on Thursday condemned a police attack on its convoy carrying humanitarian aid to Lyari, terming it as “state terrorism”.

JI Karachi chief Mohammad Hussain Mehanti, while addressing a news conference, announced that his party would call an all-parties conference on May 4 on the Lyari situation. He asked the government to allow welfare organisations to start relief work in Lyari and not to create any problems and hurdles for them.

The JI leader said that the JI’s Al-Khidmat distributed food among 500 people in Afshan Gali of Lyari, but its volunteers came under the police attack upon their return. An ambulance of the foundation and vans of a private television were badly damaged due to the firing. He demanded the government to take immediate action against those police personnel involved in the attack.

He also urged the chief justice of Pakistan to take immediate notice of the present situation of Lyari.
