Minister for Water and Power Syed Naveed Qamar during a meeting of the cabinet committee on wheat import directed the concerned quarters to expedite the process for exporting surplus wheat to Iran. Chairing a meeting, Syed Naveed said that about ten lac ton surplus wheat would be exported to Iran under barter trade arrangements and in return urea would be imported. He asked the authorities to finalize arrangements to meet the Iranian offer so that export of wheat and import of urea could take place so that farmers should not feel any problem with the setting of Kharif season. The secretary Foods informed the meeting about his recent visit to Iran. He said the Iranian government was keen to purchase wheat and rice. The wheat would be exported through PASCO godown via sea route and in return urea would be imported. He said that first export transaction would take place in this month and after final approval, export of 10 lac ton of wheat would take place in phases. The meeting was also attended by minister for National Foods Security, secretary national foods security, MD PASCO and officials of ministry of trade.
