LAHORE - In the wake of Supreme Court’s verdict against PM Gilani, the PPP has planned to take out a rally in Lahore on Friday (today) to express solidarity with the convicted prime minister.

As per plan, PPP activists would gather at Nasir Bagh at 3 pm today to start their onward march towards Data Darbar in the form of a rally. Local party leaders will also address the participants at the culmination point besides offering prayers at the shrine of the great Sufi saint of the Sub-continent.

Aslam Gill, special assistant to the prime minister, has taken upon himself the responsibility to make arrangements for today’s show which is meant to show unity and extend support to the prime minister. Gill is confident that a good number of people would turn up at the venue to make it an impress show.

It may be noted here that PPP’s Lahore chapter also organised a protest demonstration a few days back in the City to show resentment over the SC’s verdict against Yusuf Raza Gilani; but it was not a big show as far as number of the participants is concerned. Local party leaders are expecting greater participation of workers in today’s rally.

Meanwhile, PPP’s northern Punjab organisation has congratulated the people of south Punjab over passage of National Assembly resolution seeking creation of a new province. In a press statement, party office bearers including Imtiaz Safdar Warraich, Azizur Rehman Chan and Aamer Raja criticised the PML-N for opposing the resolution.

In a separate statement, PPP’s Lahore Women wing President and MPA, Faiza Malik said that passage of a resolution in the National Assembly expressing confidence in the leadership of Prime Minister Gilani should serve as an eye opener for the PML-N and other opponents.
