VEHARI - District Press Club in the collaboration with an NGO (Noor Organisation) organised a seminar to mark World Press Freedom Day here on Thursday.

PML-N MPA Shamilla Aslam was the chief guest on the occasion while District Press Club President Ghulam Bari Ch presided over the seminar.

Addressing to the participants, Shamilla Aslam said that people who know the prestige of pen deserved to be saluted. Journalism has very vital and positive role in the prosperity of democracy.

She highlighted the importance of freedom of the press and reminded the governments of the duty to respect and uphold the right to freedom of expression. She said that the freedom of speech and expression was the right of a citizen to gather information and exchange thought with others.

“Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; the right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and seek and receive and impart information and ideas through any media regardless of frontiers,” she added.

Nazaria-e-Pakistan Trust District Chairman Hafiz Adrees Zia, Religious Alliance Vice Chairman, Government College Principal Rana M Yaqoob, DO-Social Welfare Ray Akhtar Azhar, District Press Club General Secretary Rai Javed, Miss Sabohi Hassan and DBA Vice President Shakeel Ahmad also spoke on the occasion.
