MQM Deputy Convener Dr Farooq Sattar has said that a conspiracy was being hatched to keep his party out of the election race.

Addressing a gathering of traders and industrialists here on Saturday, he said that the coming election was being turned into selection.

"A new model will be devised to observe a day of mourning after May 11 elections," he said without going into any specifics.

The MQM leader termed the local body system as vital for development. Serious efforts needed to be taken to uplift the economy, he said, warning of serious consequences if challenges were not addressed.

Dr Sattar said that schools would be destroyed in Karachi also if Taliban were not stopped.
