ISLAMABAD : National Highway Authority has started work on rehabilitation and upgradation of 43-km Taxila-Khanpur-Haripur Highway and its completion will boost trade, tourism, industry facilitate the people in their travel in the area. This highway starts at Taxila on Peshawar Rawalpindi National Highway and reaches Khanpur and Haripur and this is an important link between Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, an official of National Highway Authority said on Friday.

About seven kilometre portion of this highway falls in the Punjab.

 while 36 kilometers is in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and this project will cost Rs 2854 million.

This road was federalized in 2010 and declared a national highway, he added.

With the completion of this highway, links between Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will be strengthened that will improve trade and business activities in both the provinces.

He said that the NHA was building the National Trade Corridor Programme to boost economic development of the whole region.

He said that under the National Trade Corridor Programme, progress is being made to set up an efficient, swift, and world standard highway network so that a quality communication facility is provided to the future trade traffic.
