ISLAMABAD - Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is likely to visit Iran on May 11 to discuss bilateral relations and regional situation with Iranian President Hasan Rouhani, sources said on Saturday.
Sartaj Aziz, prime minister's advisor on national security and foreign affairs, also visited Tehran last week to finalise agenda of the meeting. Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmed Chaudhry held the 7th round of annual bilateral political consultations with Deputy Foreign Minister of Iran Ibrahim Rahimpour in Tehran on 29th April 2014.
The talks were held in a cordial and friendly atmosphere. All areas of bilateral cooperation including political, security, economic and culture were discussed.
The foreign secretary highlighted Prime Minister Sharif's vision of a peaceful neighbourhood for economic development and prosperity of the people of the region.
In this context, the foreign secretary underlined Pakistan's desire to further strengthen existing bonds of friendship and good neighbourly relations with Iran.
Both sides agreed to focus on enhancing bilateral economic cooperation for the common good of both nations.
The two sides also exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual interest. Both sides agreed that a peaceful and stable Afghanistan is vital for stability of the region.
