Anti-corruption campaign ongoing as per COAS orders: DG ISPR

RAWALPINIDI:  Director General (DG) Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Lieutenant General Asim Saleem Bajwa has stated that the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif ratified the death sentences of eleven terrorists, adding that the military courts are functioning on daily basis and that no decisions are made in a hurry.

While conversing in a private TV channel program, Lt. General Bajwa stated that a total of 207 cases are being heard at the military courts and that decisions regarding 88 of them have been made. He stated that the operation in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) is almost complete. DG ISPR said that various intelligence based operations are being carried out in the country and that the Temporarily Displaced Persons (TDPs) are also returning to their homes now, adding that the entire population of the TDPs will head back to their abodes till the end of the ongoing year.

Lt. General Bajwa said that operations will be carried out in all the no-go areas of the country and that all such areas shall be cleared. He further added that the Chottu gang was operational since the past 7 years, and the army cleared an area of 25 miles in distance and that the people have been relieved as the result of the army’s actions.

He further added that some facilitators of the terrorists still exist and advised the citizens to stay alert in this regards and to keep an eye on suspicious individuals. Lt. General Bajwa said that interrogation is being carried out from the Chottu gang and that many revelations have been made; however, complete accounts of things will be discussed after the report is made.

For the first time DG ISPR stated that the Special anti-corruption campaign is being carried out within the army on the orders of the Army Chief. He added that to cater such incidents in the future, the process of self-accountability needs to be made more functional. He said that six military personnel were sacked and that all of them were punished in regards to a similar offense. He clarified that no inquiry took place against Lieutnant General Naveed Zaman and Sajjad Ghani, adding that speculations were being spread regarding action against them.

He said that the army is setting examples by dealing with corruption effectively, adding that punishments were given in accordance to the offence conducted. DG ISPR said that the process of accountability has been made tougher, adding that inquiries will be held in the future and punishments will be given according to the decisions made.
