The clocks have been turned back by one hour but it is not clear whether the government has achieved any of its objectives by turning the hands of time forward and backwards. One thing is very clear, though; reversing of clocks is a big relief for students and office goers because before this, they were supposed to reach in the morning till 8:00 A. M. (actually 7:00 A. M of old) but now will reach at actual 8:00 A. M. The decision was taken solely with a view to overcome the energy crisis but what we experienced was totally opposite. That is, the energy crisis persisted through out the country despite the time change. I am sure they could not get the desired results. Today, on 1st of November, the crisis of loadshedding is raging just as it did before the change and this despite a change in weather for the better and non-usage of air-conditioning in most of the country. The old logic that use of electricity is doubled in summer and halved in winter just doesnt apply any more? The government must do something real and tangible to resolve the energy crisis and avoid this useless, and unpleasant, advance/reverse of an hour. -MURAD ALI MOHMAND, NBF, Peshawar, November 1.
