Adiala Jail officials' remand extended for 3 more days

RAWALPINDI - A local court, Wednesday, extended physical remand of the Superintendent and the Deputy Superintendent of Adiala jail for three more days in the case of abduction of eleven persons who were acquitted in four different terrorism cases but were later abducted. Special Judicial Magistrate Ashraf Gondal extended physical remand of Superintendent Saeedullah Gondal and Deputy Superintendent Khalid Bashir of the Adiala Jail for three more days and directed the police to produce them again in the court on the next date of hearing of the case. The court extended the remand after the investigators sought their custody to interrogate them for the alleged abduction of the eleven men. The superintendent and the deputy superintendent of the jail were arrested by Saddar Bairuni Police on Tuesday last on the orders of the Supreme Court for not releasing the eleven men despite the courts orders. An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) had ordered the release of 11 the accused persons in eight terrorism cases, but they were kept in detention. They moved the Lahore High Court, submitting that the ATC had ordered their release but they were not released. The LHC also ordered their release but still they were not released. After that, the accused moved a contempt of court application in the Supreme Court on June 21. Justice Tariq of SC had ordered the arrest of the superintendent, deputy superintendent and other responsible persons after which Saddar Bairuni Police Station registered a case against them. Saddar Baruni Police Station had presented them in court after a seven-day physical remand. The police demanded physical remand of both the officials, which the court granted. The two men were arrested from outside the Supreme Court where they appeared to attend the proceedings of a petition against the alleged abduction of eleven men acquitted by an anti-terrorism court.
