CCP flays closed-door deal over Reko Diq mines

LAHORE - Concerned Citizens of Pakistan Society (CCP) has denounced the alleged closed-door deal through which the mining rights of $260 billion Reko Diq gold and copper mines in Balochistan are being given away for peanuts to some foreign companies through alleged collusion of Raisani, Zardari, Gilani, Governor State Bank and others. In a statement, CCP said The value of these mines is equal to 570 Steel Mills. If Pakistan gets its fair share of these mines, it would become richer than any of the present oil-producing Gulf countries. If this report is incorrect, let the concerned parties (all public functionaries) deny it immediately and float international tenders forthwith to get the best deal in an honest, transparent manner after obtaining a fair assessment of the worth of the mines through independent surveys to be conducted in full view of the media. If such denial and proposed steps are not taken within 24 hours, the CCP requests the Chief Justice of Pakistan to take notice of the case and to stay all proceedings in respect of these mines till the final decision. The foreseeable outcome of this case could be the alleviation of the burden of poverty and massive reduction or discharge of the debt which is crushing the Pakistani nation, it added.
