ISLAMABAD  - Terming the drone attack which had killed TTP chief Hakimullah Masud as attack on the government-TTP dialogue initiative, Amir Jamaat-I-Islami Syed Munawar Hassan said that he was not expecting any strong stand on part of Mian Nawaz Sharif-led government which according to him is like a slave to US.

Addressing a press conference here on Sunday JI Amir Syed Munawar Hassan made it loud and clear that it was beyond the capacity of Mian Nawaz Sharif government to take some strong and principled stand on drone attacks.

To a question about the strong position Federal Interior Minister had taken on recent drone strikes, JI amir expressed a little surprise and feared that Ch. Nisar may lose his ministerial slot or he would become the engine of real change in the country’s foreign policy.

Rejecting the Protection of Pakistan Ordinance in its present shape, Syed Munawar Hassan said that if enforced in its current form the ordinance would infringe upon all the basic liberties available to common citizen under the constitution of Pakistan, as the agencies and law enforcement agencies would get extra-ordinary powers.

He further said that the ordinance was brought in haste and it should have been passed through the mills of the Parliament for ratification of flaws and lacunae in it.

He said that in response to the letter of Prime Minister Mohammad Nawaz Sharif wherein he had sought their support regarding the Protection of Pakistan Ordinance 2013 they had written all their reservations and pointed out anomalies in it.

He expressed concern over the way Prime Minister Mohammad Nawaz Sharif was undermining the Parliament and asked media and human rights bodies to take notice of this flawed ordinance.

He demanded detailed deliberations on the said ordinance in the Parliament so that all lacunae in it could be removed.

To a question, JI Amir supported Imran Khan’s decision to block NATO supplies till the time drone strikes were stopped and suggested to PTI Chairman to take other political parties into confidence on blocking NATO supplies.

To a question Syed Munawar Hassan said that the recent drone attacks had exposed the American animosity toward Pakistan and said that US would not want see peace and stability in the region and that was the reason it had sabotaged the peace initiative taken by the government.

He further said that American wanted instability and anarchy in Pakistan so that the country’s nuclear arsenal could be brought into the control of anti-Islam forces.

Criticising the rulers, who according to him, were giving the indication that blockade of NATO supplies would have little bearing on America and said that the blockade of NATO supplies would have direct impact on America and its strategic interests in Afghanistan particularly when they were planning exit strategy from the war-torn country.
