KARACHI - Despite the apex court orders, number of Excise and Taxation officials have been posted on contractual and Own-Pay Scale (OPS) basis, whereas corruption is rampant in motor registration department, The Nation learnt Sunday.
According to details, various officials in Sindh Excise and Taxation are working on deputation and OPS basis, despite the apex court had ordered to end their services by send them to the mother institutions.
E&T sources said that following the court orders, the Sindh government had also directed the department’s high ups including Sindh Excise Minister Mukesh Kumar Chawla to respond to the court verdict; however no action has been taken so far in this connection.
The sources said that Assistant Excise and Taxation Officer Karamullah Kalwar, AETO Wasim Khwaja, Aftab Shah Rashidi and some others were posted on deputation in excise motor registration department, while Rajesh Kumar, Wishan Khatwani, Raj Kumar and Lakhmir were given the key posts through out-of-turn promotions. They are said to be the close relatives of Sindh Excise and Taxation Minister Mukesh Kumar Chawla.
The sources further informed that recently an Excise Inspector namely Qayyum Solangi and minister's relative Rajesh Kumar established a tussle after Solangi opposed an illegal practice of Kumar. Following the tussle, Minister Chawla suspended only Solangi while his relative Kumar is still enjoying his post and has not been questioned about the illegal practice.
Solangi submitted a complaint to Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah who directed the department to suspend all of the officials involved in the misconduct including Director Admin Waheed Sheikh, AETO Rajesh Kumar and AETO Sohail Baloch. But the Excise Minister again ignored the CM’s directives and suspended some of the bottom staff, leaving the main accused at large.
When contacted, various high ups of the department avoided to comment on the issue.
