RAWALPINDI - A customs, taxation and anti-smuggling court yesterday deferred the hearing in Ayyan Ali money smuggling case till today (Wednesday).

The court ordered the defence counsel to complete arguments till today (Wednesday) on the acquittal plea of the accused.

According to details, Customs, Taxation and Anti-Smuggling Special Judge Rana Aftab Ahmed Khan took up the case during which the prosecution argued before the court to indict the accused in money smuggling case.

Ayyan Ali along with her lawyer Sardar Latif Khan Khosa appeared before the court amid tight security.

Pakistan Customs lawyer Ameen Ferooz told the court that the government had imposed a complete ban on currency smuggling. He added that Ayyan Ali committed crime by trying to smuggle currency outside the country and Pakistan Customs had caught her red-handed on the airport.

He said Ayyan was trying to fly to Dubai and she had also the boarding pass with her.

He said the accused model reached Rawal Lounge at 11:00am and had also paid passenger fee to the authorities concerned.

The lawyer asserted that the accused model confessed during investigation that the dollars she wanted to smuggle were her own. Therefore, the court should indict the accused, he urged.

The court, after completion of arguments of prosecution, adjourned the hearing till today (Wednesday) and ordered the defence lawyer to complete his arguments on acquittal plea.

Earlier, Ayyan Ali reached the court premises amid tight security. A large number of lawyers, litigants and people belonging to different walks of life had already gathered there to have a glimpse of the model.

It was Ayyan’s 26th appearance before court but she was not indicted.
