ISLAMABAD - Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif made it loud and clear that the government would develop the Western Corridor for China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) on priority basis as committed with the nation in the All Parties Conference (APC) held on the issue sometime back.

The reiteration of premier on prioritisation of the Western Route of CPEC would greatly help allaying the growing concerns among the political parties mainly from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, which early had forced the government to call an APC on the issue.

Prime Minister Mohammad Nawaz Sharif was yesterday briefed on the development of all infrastructure projects relating to CPEC.

Chairman NHA Shahid Ashraf Tarar gave a detailed briefing to the prime minister about the CPEC route and the Western Corridor. The PM directed for early completion of Western Corridor and to start land acquisition for which the funds have already been allocated in PSDP budget.

The PM also directed staff of his office to coordinate with KP and Balochistan governments for fast tracking land acquisition process.

Premier Sharif said that Western Corridor was his commitment in the All Parties Conference to the nation and it shall be honoured.

He said that government has made unprecedented investment in infrastructure projects in Balochistan, as such it is for the first time that 100 per cent PSDP funds have been released by the federal government to Balochistan.

He emphasised upon speedy development of the projects along with strict adherence to all the applicable procurement guidelines.

The PM said that the speedy implementation of the projects shall not compromise by the transparency standards. He added that the projects must be completed within stipulated time.

The PM was briefed that the feasibility designs and timeliness of the different packages of the projects like Burhan-D.I Khan, D.I Khan to Zhob, Zhob to Quetta etc.

The Premier was briefed that financial closure of Lahore to Abdul Hakim Motorway and Zhob to Mushakot Motorway have been done and these projects are ready for the groundbreaking. The PM decided to do the ground breaking of these projects in November 2015.

Premier Sharif was briefed that work on Khanewal to Multan section of Motorway is complete and the project is ready for inauguration in November.

The PM showed satisfaction on the progress of the development works and directed NHA to fulfill its obligation towards to people of Pakistan with utmost commitment and by ensuring transparency and saving tax payer’s money. The meeting was also attended by senior officers of PM Office.
