Rawalpindi - The disgruntled workers of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) have appealed to Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan to take notice of ignoring ideological party workers by local leadership in local government elections.

They said that all the union councils should be opened for candidates if the party leadership could not dispense justice towards the diehard workers who have rendered countless sacrifices for the party.

Talking to The Nation yesterday, the five local candidates including Raja Nasir Mehfooz, Tanveer Akhtar Sheikh, Zulfiqar Ali, Raja Iftikhar Mehmood and Chaudhry Amjad Ali, who have also formed Tehreek-e-Nijat Group, alleged that party’s city leadership has been ignoring the genuine and real workers and preferring the new faces for upcoming LG elections. Coming down very hard on PML-N city chapter leadership including Sardar Muhammad Nasim, Muhammad Hanif Abbasi, Raja Muhammad Hanif, Malik Shakeel Ahmed Awan and Zia Ullah Shah, they said that the leaders are fielding ‘imported’ candidates. “Though the central leadership has not yet decided giving party tickets to these candidates, a large number of imported candidates have been busy displaying banners and placards of their proposed panels in different union councils,” they said.

Tanveer Akhtar Sheikh, who once remained as political prisoner in Adiala Jail, said that he would commit suicide at Committee Chowk on November 5 if the central leadership failed to take notice of injustice towards the genuine workers.

Raja Nasir Mehfooz, the candidate for chairman in UC-21 Dhoke Kala Khan, was of view that the local leadership has finalized the list of candidates for LG election in a secret meeting that is why no notice is being taken on exercise of displaying banners and posters in the city. He was of view that the local leadership overlooked them as they could not open the doors of their cars or chant slogans in their favour. He said that they are being victimised by local leaders for their defeat at the hands of PTI in general elections 2013.

Iftikhar Mehmood said that the leadership was involved in fielding those candidates who once remained loyal to military dictator General (Retd) Pervez Musharraf.

The five workers of PML-N appealed to Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan and MNA Hamza Shahbaz Sharif to come forward and take notice of the issue and award them tickets for election; otherwise, they would register their strong protest.
