ISLAMABAD - Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif was accorded a warm welcome in Saudi Arabia yesterday on his arrival there on a two-day official visit, Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Asim Bajwa said.

During the visit, the Army Chief is expected to offer more cooperation in training to Saudi armed forces in counter terrorism on the face of the increased threats from terrorist groups such as Daesh. DG ISPR General Asim Bajwa in a tweet said that the army chief was received and accorded warm welcome by Deputy Defence Minister and Commander Saudi Land Forces.

Later, General Raheel Sharif held a meeting with Saudi Chief of General Staff General Abdul Rehman bin Saleh Al-Bunyan and they exchanged views on bilateral cooperation and regional situation.

General Raheel will meet military and political leadership of Saudi Arabia during the visit, the ISPR added.

On October 30, the Army Chief had said that any threat to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will evoke a strong response from Pakistan.

The army chief made that statement during the culmination of a two-week counter-terrorism training for the special forces of Pakistan and Saudi Arabia at National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC) in Pabbi near Jhelum.

Al-Shihab focused on counter terrorism training of the special operation forces of Pakistan and (the) Kingdom of Saudi Arabia which included cordon and search operations, airdropping and heli-lifting of Special Forces for operations against terrorists’ acts and their hideouts.

Addressing the concluding ceremony, the army chief said that Pakistan and Saudi Arabia enjoy strong and brotherly ties which have a long history of deep-rooted cooperation.

While meeting the participating troops, he appreciated their dedication, motivation and professionalism.

He said that the exercise signifies the joint effort of “our two nations against terrorism and Insha’Allah we will defeat this menace in all its forms and manifestations.”

A six-member high level Saudi military delegation headed by General Mufleh Bin Saleem al Otaibi, Commander Special Forces of Saudi Arabia was also present on the occasion.


Advisor on National Security Lt Gen. (Retd) Naseer Khan Junjua called on Defence Minister Khawaja Mouhammad Asif at his office and discussed matters related to security situation in the country.

Welcoming the new Advisor, Khawa Asif expressed the hope that with appointment of General Janjua Pakistan will achieve more gains in its counter terrorism efforts. He appreciated his role as Corps commander Quetta in restoring peace and stability in that province.
