The Pattoki Saddr Police on Tuesday registered a case against MPA Sardar Asif Nakai for thrashing and abusing Pakistan Awami Tehreek candidate for general counsellor’s seat on October 31. The PAT candidate Asghar Ali and his nephew Hafiz Rehman sustained critical injuries and were admitted to hospital where condition of Asghar Ali is stated to be critical.

The incident occurred outside a polling station at Ward No-5 in UC-96 during polling for the first phase of the local government elections in Punjab. The police have launched further investigation. Sardar Asif Hayat Nakai was elected as MPA on PML-Q ticket from PP-193 constituency of Kasur during 2013 general elections. He is the son of former Punjab chief minister Arif Nakai and cousin of Talib Nakai. He has been federal minister for housing during Gen (r) Pervez Musharraf’s rule.

The Chunian Saddr police have also booked Muhammad Mansha, a losing candidate, on charges of torturing supporters of his opponent after losing election.
