Pakistan, Austria to cooperate in diverse fields at JWG meeting

ISLAMABAD
Pakistan and Austria on Monday agreed to enhance cooperation in diverse fields of economy particularly in energy, telecommunication and tourism sectors.
The understanding came at the meeting of Austrian-Pakistan Joint Working Group (JWG) on trade and economic cooperation held in Vienna.
“Both the sides underlined their general interest in further increasing cooperation in various fields particularly energy including renewable energy, environmental technology railways, transport of goods and signal system,” said a statement received here Tuesday.
It said both the sides would also cooperate in the fields of tourism and tourism cooperation including tourism management, SME promotion, dual vocational training and cooperation in the field of mining.
The Austrian delegation was headed by Vice Minister Foreign Economic Policy and European Integration, Federal Ministry of Science, Research and Economy, Ms Mernadette Marianne Gierlinger whereas the Pakistan delegation was led by Secretary Economic Affairs Division, Saleem Sethi.
On the occasion, the Austrian delegates presented memoranda of Austrian companies interested in an intensified cooperation with Pakistan whereas the Pakistani delegates agreed to facilitate such efforts to promote the mutual interest of both the countries.
According to the statement, both the sides discussed various matters of mutual interest in a warm and cordial atmosphere, reflecting the traditionally close relations between the two countries.
They also agreed to hold the sixth session of the JWG in Islamabad at a date to be agreed upon thorough diplomatic channels. It is pertinent to mention that the fourth session of the JWG was held
in Vienna on October 9, 2010.
