New Delhi: BJP general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya's criticism of Bollywood icon Shahrukh Khan for his comments on "extreme" intolerance in India drew a swift reaction from environment minister Prakash Javadekar who said this did not reflect the party stand.

"Shahrukh Khan lives in India but his heart is in Pakistan. His films earn crores here but he sees intolerance in India," Vijayvargiya said in a series of tweets. The BJP leader joined the heated debate on social media over Shahrukh's comments, asking where the star had been when people died in Mumbai in 1993 (bombings).

Reacting to the tweets, Javadekar said, "I would like to make it clear that what he (Vijayvargiya) has said is not the party position. He does not represent the party point of view."

Shahrukh had on Monday criticized "extreme intolerance" in the country. "There is intolerance, there is extreme intolerance... there is I think... there is growing intolerance," he had said. "It is stupid... It is stupid to be intolerant and this is our biggest issue not just an issue. Religious intolerance and not being secular in this country is the worst kind of crime that you can do as a patriot," he added.

Vijayvargiya is the latest BJP leader to shoot off his mouth despite repeated injunctions from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP chief Amit Shah that loose comments must be avoided.

There was a conspiracy to create an impression that there was an atmosphere of intolerance, Vijayawargiya said. Shahrukh's comments were only in tune with Pakistan and other anti-India voices, he added. "If this is not being traitorous against the nation, then what is? Anti-India forces are conspiring to oppose India's likely membership of the UN Security Council," he said.

In another development another BJP MP, Yogi Adityanath has said: "there is no difference in language of film actor Shahrukh Khan and terror mastermind Hafiz Saeed," He targeted the bollywood start by saying that he is famous because majority of population watches his films.
