Senate Chairman Raza Rabbani today said constitution should be supreme over all the institutions and should be respected.
According to the reports, he was addressing a seminar at the National Institute of Management today and said that every institution of the country should work under constitutional limits.
He advised state institutions to not unconstitutionally interfere in each other’s domains.
Senate chairman said that unconstitutional moves will hinder the implementation of the 18th Amendment and it is because of this that “currently nothing is going right in the country”.
Rabbani commented that the 18th Amendment stood as a barrier against Martial Law in the country and that it is highly unfortunate that a military dictator [Lt Gen (R) Pervez Musharraf] ran away from the country and the state could not bring him to justice.
He said that four of the 14 points of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah are on provincial autonomy and hence the rights of the provinces should be respected.
He further added that it is essential for the country that general elections are held on time.
