Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice Muhammad Anwarul Haq on Saturday approved functioning of the first evening court and establishment of such courts as required in other districts of Punjab. According to a notification, Justice Haq approved the evening court, which shall start its working at the Lahore District Courts and hear cases under the West Pakistan Family Courts Act, 1964 and Guardian & Wards Act, 1890 from 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm with immediate effect.  The purpose of evening courts is expeditious disposal of family cases under the West Pakistan Family Courts Act, 1964 and the Guardian & Wards Act 1890, so that welfare of minors and interest of litigant public could be secured.  Over 1.3 million cases are pending in the courts of the lower judiciary and about 150,000 cases are pending in the Lahore High Court—the top constitutional court of the province.
