Minister directs cos to maximise power generation

ISLAMABAD (APP) - Minister for Water and Power Raja Pervez Ashraf has directed all Power Generation Companies (GENCOs) to assure full availability of generating plants and said there should be no forced outages. The Minister further directed that the plants should work on maximum capacity and the scheduled maintenance of plants should be completed within shortest possible time before December next. He made these directions while presiding over a meeting with Power Generation Companies (GENCOs) here Saturday. Secretary, Advisor and Additional Secretary of M/O Water and Power, Managing Director, PEPCO, Managing Director PPIB, Chairman IRSA and senior officials of Petroleum CEOs of GENCOs attended the meeting. The Minister made it clear to authorities that in case of emergencies, least possible forced closures may take place. A comparison of available generation capacity with compatible figures of last year was also carried out in the meeting which showed extra generation this year and also lesser loadshedding despite hot weather. He also directed to complete up-rating of Guddu Thermal Power Station before December next to enhance the generating capacity by 225MW. The government has prioritised to maximise power generation capacity to end loadshedding in the country and all the resources are being utilised to cope with the prevailing situation and to bridge the gap between demand and supply, he said. Earlier, the meeting discussed the generation capability of all the GENCOs. The meeting was also given detailed briefing on oil and gas supply situation for next three months for power plants and the power generation from GENCOs.
