LAHORE - Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Habibur Rehman ordered the Lahore police to remain alert around the Punjab Governor’s House on Wednesday.

A top cop, however, said the fresh instructions were given to the police after Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif directed the IGP to immediately arrest former Ogra chairman Tauqeer Sadiq.  “To appease the chief minister, the Lahore police cordoned off the Governor’s House as the IGP believed that Tauqeer Sadiq took refuge at the Governor’s House, a senior police officer said on condition of anonymity. “The two Civil Lines Division SPs led cops to the Governor’s House and cordoned off the area,” he added. However, the IGP spokesperson disseminated a text message, saying: “The Punjab IGP ordered the Lahore police to remain alert around the Governor’s House.”

According to sources, Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah came to know about the ‘hideout’ of former Ogra chairman and shared the information with the Punjab chief minister.

No arrest was made till filing of this report.
