MIRPUR (AJK) – In a surprise raid at a hide at Dina Town, the Mirpur police claimed to have busted three inter-provincial gangs of “most wanted” criminals and arrested 18 accused wanted in dacoity, murder and attempts to murder cases in Mirpur and Punjab province.

“The arrested accused were planning to rob Mushtaq Jewelers in the housing sector C/4 by posing them as the police officials by wearing the fake police uniforms, said Mirpur Deputy Commissioner Masoodur Rehman and Senior Superintendent of Police Munir Hussain while addressing a news conference at the SSP Office.

Elaborating the exceptionally successful haul of the bandits by the local police, the Mirpur DC and SSP stated that the recent incidents of dacoity and burglary in various parts of Mirpur city and its adjoining town of Dadayal had spread a great panic and a sense of insecurity among the local population.

“Police was after these accused who were wanted in recent incidents of looting,” said the SSP. The SSP said, “The accused had deprived a local automobile shop’s owner, Munir Ahmed, of Rs1.25 lakh and three cell phones. They looted Rs1.19 lakh and two mobile phones from a petrol pump at Allama Iqbal Road. They robbed the house of one Nazir Ahmed in local sector G/1 besides committing  similar three other incidents in local housing sectors B/5 Sangoat and Jarole villages and depriving the victims of the cash and gold ornaments worth Rs3 million.”

The DC and SSP Mirpur continued that in order to make the concerned crimes-hit areas of the city rid of the severe panic, a special police party was constituted to nab the accused, he said.

The District police chief revealed that majority of the arrested accused belonged to the areas outside AJK. The SSP said that the accused were identified as Mohsin Iqbal of Multan, Haleem Khan of Rawalpindi, Muhammad Yasin of Lahore, Sajaad Shah of Nankana Sahib, Abid Hussain Baloch of Gujranwala, Mustafa Shah of Nathiya Town Mirpur, Mahmood Hussain of Khaarik, Rashid,  Imran Bashir, Muhammad Naeem, Zahoor Sagher of Sargodha, Sahrif of Jatlan, Muhammad Idress of Bhaliyala, Ibrar Ahmed of Potha Sheir dadayal, Basharat of Bangish Colony Rawalpindi, Zahir of Sarda Kotli and Sohail Akram of Khaniwal.

 “The raiding police party also recovered three fake police uniforms including two pinned with the ranks of sub-inspector and one assistant sub inspector,” the SSP said, adding that the accused had planned to rob a local jewelry shop in local housing sector. The police also recovered huge quantity of illicit arms including eight pistols of 30 bore, one moozer, a pistol of 9 MM, 10 magazine, 95 cartridges, 17 cell phones, four fake green-color registering number plates, Cash for Rs82,000, a laptop and the considerable quantity of stolen gold ornaments from their possession.

The SSP said they had confessed to have involved in cases of in various parts of adjoining Punjab province. “The Punjab police are being consulted with to get further details about the involvement of the bandits in the street crimes,” he said.

All the arrested accused were presented and the recovered stolen goods from their possession were showed to the local print and electronic media at the SSP office.
