LAHORE - The Afghan team departed for their country after taking part in the International U-19 Asian Rugby event here at the Punjab Stadium.

Afghan team captain Mustafa Mohammed thanked Punjab government, Sports Board Punjab (SBP) and Pakistan Rugby Union (PRU) for their hosting and hospitality while their stay in Lahore.  He said: "Though rugby is the newest sports in Afghanistan, yet our rugby team has played well and has learnt a lot by their first international match with Pakistan and this will definitely be the cause of the improvement in their skills to play rugby next time."

"Uzbekistan team cannot participate in this international event due to some technical reasons and this is why we are leaving back to Afghanistan," he added.

Afghanistan was the third team of International U-19 Asian Rugby Championship which had lost their first match at the hands of Pakistan. The final match of the tournament will be held between Pakistan and India tomorrow (Saturday) at 5:30pm while the Pakistan universities will play an exhibition match with Pakistan Barbians before the final.

Punjab Rugby Association (PRA) secretary Khurram Haroon said that the exclusive arrangements had been made for the final whereas the Lahorites were eagerly waiting for the day to come.

Meanwhile, Indian rugby team had a practice session at morning time a day before the final while Pakistan team practiced in the evening session.
