ISLAMABAD : Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Sikandar Hayat Khan Bosan on Thursday said that Pakistan and Malaysia have vast potential for collaboration in the fields of agriculture and livestock. Bosan stated this while talking to High Commissioner of Malaysian to Pakistan, Dr. Hasrul Sanibin Mujtabar, when the letter called on the minister here at minister’s office. During the meeting, the minister appreciated Malaysian technical assistance in the field of agriculture to ensure food security in Pakistan.

The Minister also appreciated Malaysia’s cooperation and assistance for oil palm development in Pakistan.

Malaysia has been providing technical assistance and oil palm germinated seeds for oil palm plantation in Pakistan since 1995.

In this regard, many agreements were signed between Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) and Pakistan Oilseed Development Board (PODB) and so for MPOB has provided 1,250,000 germinated oil palm seed for plantation in Pakistan.

The Minister also thanked Malaysian High Commissioner for extending consultancy service for oil palm nursery management and field plantation.

Dr. Hasrul Sani bin Mujtabar assured that Malaysian government will also extend training facilities to Pakistan’s technical staff on palm oil extraction, processing and marketing.

Sikandar Bosan also highlighted that there was a great potential for large scale oil palm plantation in coastal areas of Sindh and Balochistan and invited Malaysian investment in this sector.

Both dignitaries also noted that the longstanding partnership between government of Pakistan and Malaysian and also resolved to explore new areas particularly in the field of agriculture and livestock to further strengthen cooperation and collaboration between the two countries.a
