PPP gives call for agitation, at last

Hike in power rates

LAHORE - The PPP’s Punjab chapter on Thursday announced to hold protest demonstrations across the province against recent hike in power rates.
Party’s Central Punjab President Mian Manzoor Wattoo chaired a party meeting at his Model Town residence and directed officebearers to hold rallies in their respective districts to register protest over the unprecedented increase in electricity rates.  In Lahore, PPP would take out a rally outside Lahore Press Club on Friday afternoon (today). Senior party leaders including Mian Manzoor Wattoo would lead the rally.
PPP secretary general Sardar Latif Khosa said that he had given a call to the party organisations to start peaceful agitation in the four provinces. He further said he would direct all provincial presidents to lead protest rallies and burn electricity bills as a mark of protest against the massive raise in power rates.
He also said that PPP workers would not resort to violence during the protest campaign. “We would not repeat the history of PML-N which had incited the protesters to set the government property on fire during demonstrations against loadshedding in the PPP tenure,” he said.
