The district government has decided to register cases against all those parents and guardians of the kids who refuse to get their children vaccinated against polio.

Chairing a meeting held to review arrangements for upcoming polio vaccination drive here on Friday, the DCO Zahid Saleem Gondal issued order for the registration of cases and arrest of these parents, saying this action had become imperative to protect the children from permanent disability. He declared that the polio drive would start from October 7 and the vaccination teams would be given full security. He disclosed that Multan was polio free district for the last four years and the health department needed to uphold this status through hard work.

He directed all district departments to coordinate with the health department for making the upcoming drive successful. He warned that the government workers exhibiting negligence in polio drive would be fired of their jobs. He asked health officials to ask private schools to cooperate with the polio teams otherwise their registration would be cancelled. The DCO instructed district police to register cases against parents resisting or refusing polio vaccination of their children.

Briefing the participants of the meeting, the EDO Health disclosed that a total of 1930 teams including over 1800 mobile ones had been constituted to go door to door and vaccinate the children.

He further revealed that over seven lac children below the age of five years will be administered polio drops during the campaign. He said that the polio teams would also be deployed at all bus stations, wagon stops, railway station, hospitals and dispensaries as well as airport to vaccinate the children on the go.
