LAHORE - Electioneering in Lahore National Assembly constituency (NA-122) is likely to gain momentum in the days ahead as a federal minister said Saturday that even his cabinet colleagues could take part in the campaign for the ruling party candidate.

During a news conference at Lahore Press Club, Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique said party’s legal advisers were of the opinion that the notification which barred the ministers from campaigning had been suspended by the court.

Already, the PML and the PTI are doing their level best to reach out to the voters and win the seat from which Ayaz Sadiq was de-seated by an election tribunal on account of electoral irregularities.

The PML-N campaign is being led by Hamza Shahbaz while the important leader of the party from PML-N like Pervaiz Malik, Khawaja Ahmad Hassan and others are accompanying with him. The PTI’s campaign is being led by party’s Chairman Imran Khan, Ch Sarwar, Aslam Iqbal and other prominent party leaders.

“All the federal ministers can take part in election campaign after the verdict of Justice Aisha Malk,” he said with special reference to by-poll campaign.

Saad, on the occasion, also blamed PTI Chairman Imran Khan for starting negative politics in the country. The PML-N central leader said that Mr Khan was the inventor of sit-in politics in Pakistan and that the latter’s issueless protests were creating hindrances in the development of country’s economy. He reiterated that PTI chairman was politically immature and suggested Khan to “shun the politics of protests and join hands with PML-N for the development of Pakistan”. He said the PML-N and PPP had learnt a lot from the blame-game politics in the past and now both the parties were mature.

He claimed the PML-N would win the by-polls in Lahore with clear majority.

“PTI is pressuring election commission to make wrong decision. The commission has already rejected the Farmers’ Package under PTI pressure. The package was for the farmers of the country and not only for Punjab,” he asserted.
