Islamabad - State Minister for Education Muhammad Baligh Ur Rehman yesterday met with Education Minister of Belarus Mihail Zhuravkov and discussed the forthcoming visit of Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko.

The President of Belarus is scheduled to visit Pakistan from October 04 to 06, 2016. During the visit, 8 educational agreements are likely to be signed between the governments of Pakistan and Belarus. Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif will sign the memorandum of understandings (MoUs) from Pakistani side.  Rehman, while welcoming his counterpart said, “These MoUs would be made operational in true letter and spirit as soon as they are signed, and would not be shelved like many before.”  On this occasion, Zhuravkov said that Belarusian government is also looking forward to collaborate in the fields of technical and vocational education, linguistics and innovation/IT parks. “We would love to host students and faculty members of universities from Pakistan in Belarus in cultural exchange programmes,” he said.  Head of Orientation Language of Belarus Serigeu Oleinik was also present in meeting.

The vice-chancellors of universities including UET, NUST and NUML also expressed their views regarding requirement and collaboration of educational agreements between Pakistan and Belarus.

The MoUs to be signed would be on mutual recognition of educational certificates, mutual cooperation agreement between Belarusian State University of Physical Culture, Minks, and QAU, cooperation between QAU and Belarusian State Technology University, Academic and Innovative Research cooperation between NUML and Belarusian State Technological University, cooperation between NUST and Belarusian State Technological University, cooperation between UET and Belarusian National Technical University, collaboration on the establishment of Urdu and Belarusian Language chairs between NUML and Minks State linguistic university, and the agreement of cooperation in the field of technical and vocational education between ministry of federal education and professional training and ministry of education Belarus.

Rehman said that these cultural exchange programs and collaboration from both countries would be fruitful in near future.
