WAPDA chief visits Diamer Basha Dam site

Gilgit - Chairman WAPDA Lt Gen (Retd) Muzammil Hussain and Commander 10 Corps Lt Gen Sahir Shamshad Mirza on Sunday visited Diamer Basha Dam site to review progress on the construction work and security. 

The Chairman WAPDA briefed the LT Gen Sahir Shamshad about the ongoing construction work on the site. He said that Diamer Basha Dam was a vital project for the country which would not only generate power and store water but also enhance functioning of Tarbela Dam. The project would also provide job opportunities and strengthen the country’s economy, he observed.

He said construction work on eight different sites of the project is underway. The sites include access tunnel, access roads, upstream and downstream cable bridges.

Diamer Basha Dam will have a gross water storage capacity of 8.1MAF to irrigate 1.23 million acres of additional land. With installed power generation capacity of 4500MW, the project will provide more than 18 billion units per annum to the national grid.
