LAHORE -Islamabad Blues on Monday outclassed Lahore in the first leg of pool round of the National Women’s Basketball Championship being organized by Pakistan Basketball Federation (PBBF) at Pakistan Sports Complex Islamabad.
According to Federal Basketball Association General (FBBA) Secretary Ouj-e-Zahoor, Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) Director General Col (R) Asif Zaman graced the opening ceremony as chief guest while Counsellor of the Embassy of Kyrgyz Republic Melis Moldaliev, PBBF President Brig (R) Iftikhar Mansoor, Secretary Khalid Bashir, PSB Deputy DG Mansoor Khan and other dignities were also present on the occasion.
In the opening match of the national event, Islamabad Blues outclassed Lahore by a narrow margin of 48-41. Some outstanding moves made it possible for Islamabad to make a comeback during the fourth quarter to win the crucial match. Asma and Aimal played exceptionally well and contributed with 18 and 12 points respectively while Yaqoob Qadri, Tariq Nawaz, Gul Jamal and MM Alam conducted the match as officials.
FBBA Secretary Ouj-e-Zahoor said that this event is one of the series of several events that Pakistan Basketball Federation has planned to revive the game in the country. “There is no dearth of talent in the country but the need of the hour is to provide this talent ample opportunities to exhibit their prowess and excel at higher level.”
