KARACHI - President NBP Ali Reza, who is also a member of the PCB advisor board, here on Wednesday presided over a meeting of the PCB International Cricket Committee. Others who attended the meeting were former Test wicket keeper batsman Ijaz Butt, Lt.Gen. (R) Munir Hafiez, PCB CEO Shafqat Naghmi and Zakir Khan who are also the members of the committee. According to a press releases issued here after the meeting, the objective of holding the meeting was to review the situation arising as a consequence of the postponement of the Champions Trophy. The PCB administrative staff presented to the Committee some of the options they were already working on, including an invitation received from the President Cricket South Africa to the Pakistan Cricket Board. The Committee felt that it was very important for the players to play competitive international cricket at the highest level to demonstrate their form and fitness for future planned series, and hence the PCB is exploring all possibilities. The committee also considered options both within and outside Pakistan of arranging international cricket to fill the vacuum. The committee was apprised by the management of the very short window of time available for arranging a tournament since most teams have international commitments beginning October 1 2008 leaving only about three weeks for arranging a tournament or series. It was further decided that Naghmi will present the proposal to the PCB governing board in its meeting scheduled for second week of September. The committee also suggested that the board meets on September 13, 2008 at Lahore.
