LARKANA - Floodwater is gushing towards Warrah and Nasirabad tehsils of Kambar-Shahadakot including some parts of Larkana District while major towns of Mehar, Johi, Khanpur, Kakar of Dadu District are still at the risk of being inundated. The protective embankments are weak due to floodwater pressure and various breaches in Khuda Abad Wah, MNV and FP Bund had been reported. Late Thursday, five people drowned and roof of a house collapsed. As a result, nine members of a family died at village Shahi Leghari near Khairpur Nathan Shah (KN Shah). Floodwater also entered KN Shah, a major town of Dadu District and submerged a City of 200,000 people. The road communication between Larkana and Hyderabad, and Karachi has been suspended due to floods. The water level in Manchhar Lake and Hamal Lake in Kambar-Shahdadkot is touching the top embankments which is a big threat to Larkana and Dadu. Floodwaters submerged all areas and villages, Seeta, Ali Abad, Bakshal and Indus Highway of Khairpur Nathan Shah, Johi and other locations of Dadu while water level receded in different locations with pressure on protective embankments of the cities and villages of Qambar-Shahdadkot and Dadu. Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah and several elected party members of districts visited affected areas at Nasirabad, Mehar, Khairpur Nathan Shah. He also held meetings with officials of Irrigation Dept to review floods. After breaches in several locations of Main Nara Valley Drains, at Johi, KN Shah, Warrah, panic spread in towns/villages which caused a large number of people to evacuate from their homes and shift to safer places with their families, but there was no transport available by the local administration. Hundreds of people of KN Shah, Seeta village (40,000 population), Johi (60,000 to 70,000 population) evacuated their towns and over 1,000 villages were submerged in the floodwaters. The local administration failed to protect the embankments in Dhamrah Wah, Johi and MNV drains as the floodwaters leading from Kambar-Shahdadkot and Qubo Saeed Khan inundated several hundred towns and villages also. Meanwhile, Manchhar Lake water level is increasing and touching 113 RL level resulting in threat of inundation of large number of towns and villages of Dadu. A large umber of men and women flood affectees in separate protests in Larkana, Badah, Dokri, Ratodero, Kamber city relief camps took out a protest demo against the local administration due to the provision of unhygienic food, health and other basic facilities at relief camps. The police baton-charged the protesting flood affectees in Larkana and Kamber City which injured 14 men and women on Friday. Gastro wreaked havoc in relief camps being set up by the Larkana administration at different places which claimed four more lives on Friday. APP adds: Floodwaters hav-e entered Sajawal city, Raju Nizmani, Jati and Tando Hafiz Shah in Thatta district following a breach in Sarjani protective embankment. Turkish, Iranian and Saudi teams are also participating in the relief activities. As many as 100,000 flood victims have spent night under the open sky. An American delegation visited the flood-affected areas and announced more tents for the flood victims.
