LAHORE The City experienced worst traffic mess on Friday partly due to heavy torrential shower and partly because of security barriers erected on main roads for security purposes by the police. Hundreds of vehicles remained struck for hours on Ferozepur Road, The Mall and other main roads while service lanes were also found packed with automobiles. The traffic chaos which was the worst during this Ramazan compelled the commuters to leave their vehicles on roads and speak unkindly with the traffic wardens who remained unable to ensure smooth flow of traffic till the evening. Some of the motorists alleged that the Traffic Police high-ups had nothing to do with the inconvenience faced by public. We can fine violators, but we can hardly do anything if traffic jam results from rain, a traffic warden deputed on The Mall requesting anonymity commented. An irate commuter censured the government saying, The government policy of blocking roads unnecessarily to facilitate VVIPs movement is the major inconvenience of the people. Another warden requesting not to be named said that they had to face aggressive and sometimes violent behaviour of the motorists when they blocked roads for VVIPs movement. The traffic was snarled up on The Mall, Jail Road, New Campus Bridge, Ferozepur Road Underpass, Kalma Chowk, Lorry Adda, Eik Moriya Bridge, Shah Di Khoi, Jinnah Underpass, Bhati Chowk, Aazadi Chowk, Lower Mall, Qari Chowk, Samanabad, Yateem Khana Chowk, Governors House Chowk, Upper Mall and at other places.
