The latest figures of the U.S assistance for Pakistans flood relief operations reached $200 million, which is the highest amount donated by any single country. The aid given by US is reaching flood-affected areas through the aegis of UN and other international organizations. That has immensely reduced the burden on our government. As part of the relief effort, a number of US helicopters, medical teams and Marine Corp units are also playing a superb role in helping people extract out of danger. The Washington realizes its principal ally in the war against terror is fighting for its life so the relief efforts are at peak with contributions being made in almost every sector. Apart from the US, the rest of world community is also pouring in money for the flood affectees. Saudi Arabia has contributed more than $140 million and the World Bank recently pledged a total of $1 billion. -FARUKH SARWAR, Islamabad, August 31.
